Breeder Award Program

Breeder Award Program (BAP) and Horticulture Award Program (HAP) Rules

  • Participants must be TFCB members in good standing.
  • Points are awarded once per species or color form per year (minimum 360 days between submissions).
  • Parent fish must be owned by the member.
  • Fry must be submitted to a TFCB club auction, a minimum of 5 unsexed or mixed sex fry, or a sexable pair are needed to qualify..
  • Unlisted species will be classified by the TFCB Board of Directors.
  • Lots are to be labeled with the scientific name of the fish if possible
  • The Board may adjust rules or classifications to maintain program quality or address issues.
  • The BAP and HAP are separate programs, you can be a novice plant keeper and a master fish breeder.
  • The BAP and HAP levels are lifetime achievements, with additional awards given annually.
  • Annual awards (BAP first, second, third, HAP first, second, third, and culture) are presented by the Board at the Holiday Party. 

Award Levels

  • Breeder – 10 points
  • Intermediate Breeder – 50 points
  • Advanced Breeder – 100 points
  • Master Breeder – 200 points
  • (Additional Master breeder levels may be added as needed)
  • Culture Award – Max 25 points (Class F only)

Classifications

Class A: 5 points

Poecilia Livebearers, Tanichthyes (White Clouds), Brachydanios, Convict Cichlids, Tilapia (mouthbrooding)

Class B: 10 points

American Flag fish (Jordanella), Neocardina Shrimp, non-Poecilia livebearers, Badis badis, Gouramis (large), Betta splendens, Paradise fish, Tilapia (non-mouthbrooding), Copeina sp., Angels, Mouthbrooding Cichlids, Pelvicachromis, A. cacatuoides, Aquidens, Geophagus, Julidochromis, Neolamprologus, Rice fish (medaka)

Class C: 15 points

Small Gouramis, wild bettas, other shrimp, Barbs and Rasboras, Killifish, Corydoras, Crenicara, Oscars, Chocolate Cichlid, Chromides, Pencil fish, Microgeophagus, Apistogramma, Urau, Goldfish, Koi, Otocinclus, Nannochromis, Gobies, Cichlasoma, Anomalchromis, Chromidotilapia, South American Cichlids, Gobies, Gudgeons, synodontis petricola and multipunctatus, Axfolotl, aquarium strains of ancistrus, tetras, Elassoma, Rainbow fish, Pseudomugils

Class D: 20 points

Other Synodontis, Discus, Cardinal and Neon Tetras, Anableps, Hatchetfish, Silver Dollars, Pantodon, Marine Damsel fish, Glass fish, Ctenopoma, Chocolate Gouramis, Bumblebee Goby, Sucker mouth Cats, Pike Cichlids, Headstanders,

Class E: 25 points

Monos, Scatophagus, Leporinus, Archer fish ,Arowana, Eels, Knife fish, Loaches, Elephant Nose, Pirana, Sharks, Seahorses

 

Any species in classes A through E which are designated a CARES species are worth an additional 5 points. 

 

Plants: 5 points

Any plant species that is capable of growing fully submersed or naturally occurs floating.  For example, Amazon swords count, but philodendrons don’t (because their leaves must grow out of the water).  Duckweed does count, but you must find someone willing to buy it in an auction to get the points for it..  Points apply to HAP only.

 

Culture: 5 points

This class is reserved for all cultivable organisms that provide food to aquatic inhabitants for breeding and raising to adulthood. Examples would include snails, brine shrimp, and worms. Points apply to Culture Award only.
